#YNLCHAT A Conversation with Sherif Asfour from Alan-K

An intimate Q&A with Sherif Asfour from Alan-K

Sherif Asfour, 31, has been making music from quite the young age. After being drawn to music, he ventured into making new tunes with his band Alan-K that remain memorable.

Here's what he had to say in this segment on #YNLCHAT...

YNL: What initially got you into music? And which instrument do you play?

Sherif: I think I was always drawn to music since my childhood in a way. I didn’t really have any preferences I found something I liked in any genre. My father used to listen to a lot of classical music, and opera as well, so i liked that, I even had a few favorites. I would sing the Melodies and act as if I was playing the music. I started picking up the guitar in high school, around 13 or 14 and then got into production and recording later on during college.

YNL: When approaching a new song, what’s your work ethic?

Sherif: We just try to remain curious and open as much as we can, we like to experiment with new sounds until we get into a flow, then the song pretty much writes itself. We’re just having fun; we’re doing what we love doing the most, and we’re blessed to be able to share it with each other and with our listeners.

YNL: How do you achieve such a “chill” vibe in your music. Are you all “chill” guys yourselves?

Sherif: I guess you can say that, we’re very good friends that have been chilling together for quite some time, maybe that’s reflected in our sound in one way or the other. We hope to explore and develop our sound more in the near future.

YNL: In the current music scene, where does Alan-K stand in terms of sound, presence, and influence?

Sherif: We just want to make music that resonates with as many people as possible, we hope to expand our audience, and we hope our listeners can create beautiful memories listening to our tunes. We want to make music that will last.
